1. Project Overview

AM Powerfit, a personal trainer–led fitness brand, aimed to expand its identity into physical sportswear. The objective was to develop a functional and branded sports tank top suitable for training environments, while also being viable for small-batch merch production.

The result is a lightweight, performance-oriented tank top designed for both athletic use and brand visibility within the AM Powerfit community.

2. Product Concept

The product developed is a men’s/women’s sports tank top intended for:

  • Gym training and functional fitness
  • Personal training sessions
  • Branded merchandise for clients and team members
  • Small-scale retail drops for brand building

The design focus was on comfort, mobility, and durability under repeated training conditions.

3. Material Specification

The chosen fabric is:

KETTEN – 92% PES / 18% EA – 280gsm

This composition delivers:

  • High durability (PES / polyester base) for long-term wear and wash resistance
  • Strong elasticity (EA / elastane content) supporting full range of motion during training
  • Medium-heavy 280gsm weight, giving the garment structure, stability, and a premium feel rather than a thin performance singlet
  • A balance between compression and comfort, suitable for strength training and general fitness use

Overall, the material supports a “performance premium” positioning rather than fast-fashion sportswear.

4. Brand Context: AM Powerfit

AM Powerfit operates as a personal trainer brand focused on performance coaching and community-based fitness. The introduction of apparel serves multiple purposes:

  • Strengthening brand identity in the gym environment
  • Creating team cohesion through uniform-style apparel
  • Offering merchandise to clients as part of the coaching ecosystem
  • Expanding into lightweight lifestyle commerce

The tank top acts as both functional training gear and a brand extension tool.

5. Production & Cost Structure

The project was evaluated under two production scenarios:

Small Batch Production (< 50 units)

  • Estimated unit cost: 16€ – 18€
  • Higher cost due to:
    • Limited material bulk purchasing
    • Setup and sampling distribution across fewer units
    • Higher relative production overhead

Larger Batch Production (200+ units)

  • Estimated unit cost: 11€ – 12€
  • Cost efficiency achieved through:
    • Bulk fabric procurement
    • Optimized manufacturing workflow
    • Reduced per-unit setup and handling costs

6. Key Insights

  • The design is scalable: cost efficiency improves significantly with volume increase
  • The fabric choice supports both performance use and premium branding
  • Even at low MOQ, the product remains commercially viable for niche brand merchandising
  • The strongest value proposition lies in combining training utility with brand identity exposure

7. Conclusion

The AM Powerfit sports tank top demonstrates how a small personal trainer brand can effectively transition into apparel merchandising without compromising quality. With a strong fabric foundation and scalable production model, the product is positioned as both a functional training garment and a brand-building asset.
